Spurlock: Simply put, we are THE I.T. department for Tampa’s small businesses.  We provide the help desk, expertise, and hardware to keep small business technology up and running. Whether it’s a new server, offsite data backup, a VOIP phone system, or a consultation on “The Cloud” we have Tampa’s small businesses’ back.

Patch: What has been the biggest challenge as a business owner?

Spurlock: Balancing work and family. I truly think I’ve found a happy medium!

Patch: What's the best piece of business advice you've received?

Spurlock: To just go out and do it. There will never be a perfect time to leave a steady paycheck behind and set out on your own. I’ve never looked back since setting out on my own nearly two years ago.

Patch: What's the most rewarding thing about being a business owner?

Spurlock: Controlling every aspect of your own destiny.

Patch: What encouragement would you give another person venturing out on their own, or on their own and facing difficulties?

Spurlock: First, invite other successful business owners that you know out for a coffee so you can bounce ideas off of them or get advice. These meeting can provide the same advice or direction that a Board of Directors would for a large corporation.  Trust me, there’s nothing more flattering to a business owner than another business owner asking them for advice! Secondly, get out there. Find out where your potential clients are and start marketing to them. Networking events might be good for some, but not others. With that being said, it takes time to grow a viable business, so don’t get discouraged.

Spurlock is one of three businesses sponsoring the next Westchase Area Business Association meeting, April 19, 6:30pm-8:30pm at Bright Eyes Family Vision Care, 9912 Linebaugh Ave., Tampa, FL 33626. Find WABA on Facebook.
