2 Dozen Cats Found ‘Living In Squalor’ In Car: Clearwater Police

CLEARWATER, FL — A Largo man was arrested after nearly two dozen cats were found "malnourished and living in squalor in his car,” the Clearwater Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

Patrick Haumann was charged with two counts of felony animal cruelty and one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty. He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

Officers responded to the Starbucks in the 1600 block of McMullen Booth Road on Monday afternoon after someone noticed the cats inside a 2004 Ford Focus, police said.

They contacted the owner, Haumann, and found multiple cats inside multiple cages inside the car.

Two dead cats were found in cages that were coated in waste, police said.

The animals were taken to Pinellas County Animal Services for treatment and further care.
