Carlos Villatoro Sr., 1936-2013

Our beloved father Dr. Carlos Alberto Bruyeros Villatoro, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at his home in Clearwater, Florida.  Born to Miguel Angel Villatoro and Esther Bruyeros de Villatoro, Carlos was born on Aug. 7, 1936 in Santiago de Maria, El Salvador.

Carlos spent his childhood in Santiago de Maria, and made many fond memories with his friends and family. He moved to San Salvador to study at Colegio Instituto America. After graduation, Carlos was accepted into La Universidad de El Salvador’s School of Medicine, where he graduated with a degree in Medicine. Carlos was awarded a scholarship to Universidad de San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he attained a Master’s Degree in Public Health.

Carlos was passionate about his profession and felt that he was doing God’s work by healing people as a doctor. Carlos worked throughout the country at various medical clinics operated by the country’s social security system and worked as the director of the country’s Department of Public Health.

After Civil War broke out in El Salvador, Carlos immigrated to the United States in 1981, and worked at San Francisco General Hospital for several years. Carlos retired in 1998 and resided in American Canyon, Calif., until 2002. Carlos wished to live his retired years in the warm weather of Clearwater, Florida.

Carlos loved music and a good joke. He was always sharing jokes with his family and friends, and would light up the room with his laughter. Carlos loved to play the guitar at parties and entertain his friends and spent many nights sharing and listening to the music that he loved so much.

He was an avid reader and instilled his love of it in his children, often reading to them out of their favorite fairytale book. Carlos was also a big fan of history, nature, the ocean and took hikes and walks whenever he had the opportunity. He liked to pack up the family car and take road trips to Disneyland and Reno with his family.

Carlos is survived by his ex-wife, Nora Villatoro, of American Canyon; children Carlos Villatoro Jr., and his wife, Crystal, of Vacaville; Vivian Alfaro, and her husband, Edwin, of San Ramon; Pedro Villatoro, and his wife Denise, of Elk Grove; Daniel Lopez Villatoro, and his wife Olga of New York; and Carlos Lopez Villatoro and his family, of New York; his cousins Martha and Dennis, Alfaro;  his cousin, Porfirio Bruyeros Velazquez, of El Salvador; his sister, Alba Marina, of El Salvador; grandchildren, Andres, Pedrito, Cristian, Olivia, Christina, Ceceli, Danielle and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will forever live in our hearts.

The family held a private memorial for Carlos.
