Blue Alert Foundation to Host Fundraiser for Dallas, Baton Rouge Police Funds

The event will take place at Quaker Steak & Lube in Pinellas Park.

PINELLAS PARK, FL – A Venice-based organization that helps the families of police officers who are severely injured or killed in the line of duty will host a fundraiser to help recent victims of violence.

The Blue Alert Foundation will host a fundraiser at the Quaker Steak & Lube at 10400 49th St. N. in Clearwater of Friday, July 22 from 5 to 10 p.m.

Tom Berry, the founder and executive director of the Blue Alert Foundation, is asking all Tampa Bay-area residents to help raise money for both the Dallas and Baton Rouge relief funds during their event.

The fundraiser will feature drawings for a Walt Disney World 4-Pack Park Hopper Passes, an Autographed Guitar from the Bellamy Brothers, a $200 gift card from the Gold & Diamond Source among other prizes.

Quaker Steak & Lube will donate 15 percent of their food sales to the Blue Alert Foundation during the event for patrons who print out and bring in this flyer.

Berry will also travel to Dallas on Tuesday, July 26 to help the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Department create a memorial for Officer Brent Thompson. Thompson’s death at the hands of an ambush on Thursday, July 7 was the first in the 27-year history of the DART Police Department.

Along with its mission to support the families of slain or severely injured police officers, The Blue Alert Foundation developed the Blue Alert System to help law enforcement officials speed the apprehension of violent criminals who kill or seriously injury local, state or federal law enforcement officers.

Based off of the success of Amber and Silver alert systems, Blue Alerts work along the same notification system. Florida was the first to the system – then known as a LEO Alert – on May 5, 2008. There are 26 other states that have enacted the Blue Alert system, and seven more states that are working on legislation to enact it as well.
