Bucs, Clearwater Police Partner To Provide Youth Training Camp

Children in elementary and middle schools participated in a series of training camp drills put on by Buccaneers staff.

CLEARWATER, FL — The Clearwater Police Department, the city's parks and recreation department and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers joined forces on Thursday to host a training camp for about 100 youngsters in Clearwater on Thursday.

Held at Walter Campbell Park, 801 N Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., children in elementary and middle schools participated in a series of training camp drills put on by Buccaneers staff.

Bucs coaches, cheerleaders and the team's mascot, Captain Fear, were on hand to show teach kids about sportsmanship and the benefits of exercising the Bucs way. The program also encourages school attendance, good grades and positive behavior.

The students who participated were from after-school programs at Clearwater recreation facilities. Students need to meet certain thresholds to be eligible for the camp.

Helping to put the kids through five drills were Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaches, Clearwater police Chief Dan Slaughter, Deputy Chief Michael Walek, Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard and several other members of the police department.
