FL Teacher Surprised By Sailor Son's Classroom Visit: Pinellas Schools

CLEARWATER, FL — Frontier Elementary School first-grade teacher Aimee Henig got quite the surprise in her classroom Thursday.

Her son, Trevor Henig, an East Lake High School graduate who has been gone for the last six months in the U.S. Navy boot camp, stopped by her classroom immediately after completing his training, Pinellas County Schools wrote in a Facebook post. (Watch a video of their reunion below.)

“It’s gonna be definitely emotional for both of us,” Trevor told the school district in a video interview before their reunion. “I can definitely feel the nerves coming through, because I haven’t seen her in a little bit, and I wasn’t the same person I was before.”

Knowing he was heading home for leave, he said he thought to himself, “How can I make this the most adorable, classic home thing?”

Trevor was inspired after seeing videos of other sailors surprising their families.

“I messaged my brother and said, ‘I’m coming home. Let’s surprise mom,’” he said.

Aimee was shocked to see her son enter the classroom.

“As soon as it registered it was him, I just wanted to grab him and hold him,” she said. “It’s been so long since I’ve gotten to do that.”
