Florida’s Child Wellbeing Decline ignites Community Action for Change

Florida slips in child wellbeing rankings, but Clearwater's The Way to Happiness seminars empower families with values.

CLEARWATER, FL — Children are the heart of our communities and the promise of our future. Floridians have long valued the wellbeing of our youth, but recent data reveals a concerning trend. According to the 2025 Annie E. Casey Foundation Kids Count report, Florida has dropped five spots in national child wellbeing rankings—slipping from 30th place in 2024 to 35th this year.¹ ²

In light of this decline, The Way to Happiness Association of Tampa Bay is taking meaningful action. With a focus on instilling positive, values-based principles, the organization is stepping up to support the children and families of Clearwater and help build a brighter future for all.

Located at 33 N. Fort Harrison Avenue in Downtown Clearwater, The Way to Happiness Association Tampa Bay is inviting families throughout the area to attend free, semi-monthly seminars aimed at teaching life lessons and instilling common-sense values. The Way to Happiness seminars range from ages from adults to children.

Based on the non-religious moral code The Way to Happiness, written by humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, the seminars draw from 21 simple yet powerful precepts grounded in everyday wisdom. ³

As Hubbard once wrote, “A child is a little bit like a blank slate. If you write the wrong things on it, it will say the wrong things. But, unlike a slate, a child can begin to do the writing: the child tends to write what has been written already.”

With this understanding, the Tampa Bay chapter has created interactive, values-based seminars that bring these lessons to life through engaging discussions and hands-on activities like arts and crafts. Each session explores a different precept—from “Set a Good Example” and “Be Industrious” to “Be Competent” and more—helping children build character, responsibility, and the confidence to thrive in today’s world.

The next seminar, “Take Care of Yourself,” will take place next Saturday, Aug 2nd at The Way to Happiness Association Tampa Bay located at 33 N. Fort Harrison Ave. Clearwater, Florida. Doors open at 2:30 PM. Parents and children are warmly encouraged to attend and experience the joy and empowerment that come from living by timeless, universal values.
