Hurricane Irma: Pinellas Jail Suspends Visitation

Sheriff Gualtieri ordered the visitation suspension because of evacuations.

CLEARWATER, FL – Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri announced the suspension of visitation to Pinellas County Jail ahead of the approaching Hurricane Irma.

The order was set as of 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 for the Pinellas County Jail Complex, located at 14400 49th St. N. in Clearwater.

Gualtieri announced the suspension of jail visitation because of the special operational needs at the Pinellas County Jail. The jail is both conducting vertical evacuations of approximately 1,000 inmates and preparing for the hurricane.

Earlier in the day, Pinellas County extended its mandatory evacuation order to Level B, along with the order already in place for A and all mobile home residents. According to the Pinellas County Know Your Zone map, the Pinellas County Jail Complex is in Zone B.
