Memorial to Honor Fallen Officers Is Friday

The annual service will recognize Clearwater officers who have died in the line of duty, as well as all fallen Florida police officers in 2012.

Clearwater's four fallen police officers will be honored at the city's 32nd annual Police Officer Memorial Service on Friday, May 3, at 10 a.m.

The ceremony also features a roll call to honor all fallen Florida Police Officers in 2012, a wreath laying and 21-gun salute. (See photos and coverage from last year's service.)

The service will take place at Station Square Park, 612 Cleveland St., Clearwater.

The four fallen Clearwater officers recognized for their sacrifice and service are:

  • Officer Harry L. Conyers died in 1967, from an accident on Gulf-to-Bay Bouelvard, as he was responding to a call.
  • Officer Peter M. Price died in 1969, from an accident on Drew Street while responding to a call.
  • Officer John F. Passer died in 1970 when a car he was trying to pull over hit his motorcycle.
  • Officer Ronald J. Mahony died in 1977, after being hit by the driver of a stolen truck.

State Fraternal Order of Police President James Preston will be keynote speaker. Congressmen Bill Young and other state and local elected officials and representatives will be in attendance.

The memorial is open to the public.

The Clearwater Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 10 and the Clearwater Police Department are hosting the downtown service.
