Work on the $7.9 million pedestrian bridge over U.S. 19 from south of Harn Boulevard to north of 1st Street began on Sept. 5, 2021.

The majority of Clearwater residents said they were looking forward to the new overpass creating a safer way for residents to get from one side of U.S. 19 to the other without taking their lives in their hands.

"I wish there were a few more of these over 19 — Gulf-to-Bay and East Bay," Dan Coffin said.

"There should be one every mile or two," agreed Brian Halifax.

Others felt it was a lot to spend for little value.

"Why did you spend so much money on a useless bridge?" asked Jeff Paulin.

"More giant wastes of money," commented Gracie Wagner. "You need to fix the roads and failing infrastructure all over the city and especially in neighborhoods.
