PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Due to an overwhelming demand, Pinellas County has added more sites for residents to free face masks following the passage of a countywide ordinance Tuesday requiring face coverings in all businesses.

The ordinance, which took effect Wednesday at 5 p.m., requires all employees at public establishments and their customers to wear face coverings while indoors. It is part of the county’s efforts to slow a recent, rapid spike in coronavirus cases in the community.

Masks were made available starting Thursday and the county had to replenish supplies after quickly running out of masks at the Clearwater Main Library, Lealman Exchange in St. Pete, Palm Harbor Library, Largo Public Library, Barbara S. Ponce Public Library in Pinellas Park and the Highpoint Neighborhood Family Center in Clearwater.

A cloth face covering, or mask, may be factory-made or sewn by hand and can be improvised from clothing or other household fabric items. Residents must wear a face covering while in most indoor public places within Pinellas County; however, there are several exceptions which can be found here.
