Pinellas Seeks Applicants For Affordable Housing Committee
The committee helps Pinellas County evaluate its SHIP Local Housing Assistance Plan.

CLEARWATER, FL – Pinellas County is looking for residents from a wide range of backgrounds to help it review the county’s affordable housing.
Pinellas County is accepting applications to fill four vacancies for three-year appointments to its Affordable Housing Advisory Committee.
The committee, part of the State Housing Initiative Partnership Program, reviews the county’s Local Housing Assistance Plan. The committee also evaluates county policies and procedures, ordinances, land development regulations and the comprehensive plan to provide recommendations to the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners that help make housing affordable while protecting the property’s ability to appreciate in value.

The SHIP committee meets one to three times a year. Meetings typically are scheduled on the first Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Clerk’s Large Conference Room, 315 Court St., Fourth Floor, Clearwater.
Applications must be received no later than the close of business on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and can be found at www.pinellascounty.org/boards.

The committee has nine members, including five active members of the Pinellas County Housing Finance Authority and four members appointed by the county commission. At least one of the four vacancies must be filled by a representative actively engage in one of these six categories:
- Areas of labor in home building in connection with affordable housing
- For-profit provider of affordable housing
- Non-profit provider of affordable housing
- Local planning agency member
- Representative of employers within Pinellas County
- Representatives of essential services personnel which include active-duty/reserve military personnel; teachers and educators; employees of school districts, community colleges or universities; police and fire personnel including police, fire, emergency medical service and 9-1-1 dispatchers; healthcare-related fields including employees of hospitals, assisted living facilities, medical providers and pharmacies; and skilled building trades personnel.
The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners will review all applications and make its selections at an upcoming county commission meeting. All materials submitted to Pinellas County government are subject to Florida’s public records law.
