Uber Driver Shot In Stomach While On Duty
The early Tuesday morning shooting of an Uber driver from Brandon is under investigation in Pinellas County.

CLEARWATER, FL — The early Tuesday morning discovery of an Uber driver with a gunshot wound to his stomach has sparked an investigation in Pinellas County.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies came across a damaged 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in the construction area near Ulmerton Road and 40th Street North around 4 a.m. July 25. When they got out to investigate, they discovered Terence Baxter, 33, of Brandon inside the vehicle. Baxter, officials say, was unresponsive.

When paramedics arrived, they determined Baxter had been shot in his abdomen, an email from the sheriff’s office said. Baxter was transported to Bayfront Medical Center for care.
Baxter later told deputies he was “jumped” while working as an Uber driver, the email said. The sheriff’s office says suspect information is not yet available. The agency has not released Baxter’s condition.
