5 Things to Know Today: Friday, July 6

With the summer is heating up, so is the community's need for volunteers. Also, we're looking for help from local politicos and parents of young children!

1) Expect mostly sunny skies today, with a high near 91! Heat index values will make it feel more like 99, according to the National Weather Service. We may see some showers or thunderstorms (30 percent chance), but not until after 2 p.m. Tonight's low is 76.

2) The lowest reported gas price in Dunedin is $3.09 at four gas stations, according to TampaGasPrices.com:

  • , 1621 Main St
  • (cash, regular), 1001 Broadway
  • (cash, regular), 2000 Bayshore Blvd
  • , 466 Patricia Ave

3) Parents of young children: Where do you recommend parents enroll their preschoolers? Pass the good word along and nominate your in our Readers' Choice poll before voting starts! Also, Pinellas County Schools has a plan to take over Head Start programs countywide. If you're interested in what that would look like or want to offer feedback, .

4) Residents who love Dunedin can help make the city greater. The city recently announced openings for volunteers for the Code Enforcement Board, the Local Planning Agency and the Committee on Aging (click the link for information about each board).

5) Are you a vocal Democrat or Republican? Dunedin Patch needs your help! As the national election heats up, Patch is going to be taking the pulse of voters across the nation. To make sure Dunedin is adequately represented, we need five volunteers from each political party to participate in periodic national polls (you can remain anonymous). Please email editor Katie Dolac at kathryn.dolac@patch.com today if you are interested (don't forget to include your party affiliation)! (We need to compile our local list by Monday morning!)
