Here are the top stories in Dunedin today:

  1. The Wild Iris Café will be featured in an episode of the Amazon Prime dramedy, Life’s Rewards. Café owner, Jody Pucello, is also a part-time actor and was written into the episode, which was filmed recently over the course of two days. After a successful first season, it has recently begun filming a second. The series is supported by production grants from tourism group Visit Florida and the Pinellas County Film Commission, encouraging tourism in the area. A premiere date for season two hasn't been announced yet, but a spring release seems likely. (TBN Weekly)
  2. The bald eagle that stole the shark from a fisherman on the Dunedin Causeway is well known in the area. Eugene made her claim to fame in 2017 during the fledgling season when she attempted to leave the nest for the first time. Instead of flying, Eugene fell 100 feet where she was found by rescuers. Despite having low chances of survival, Eugene pulled through after surgery and rehab. Then last week when the video of her stealing a fisherman's shark went viral, a volunteer for Eagle Watch, Becky Young, recognized the bald eagle as the one and only Eugene. (Yahoo)
  3. Bobby Entel, the owner of Penny Lane was recently featured in the Jewish Press of Pinellas County. Dunedin's very own memorabilia museum dedicated to The Beatles is the only known permanent collection dedicated to the band. His collection includes everything from pins and records to signed guitars and the hair of some band members. Entel described his obsession saying, “It happened for me over a period of time … and I didn’t start collecting anything until I was in my 20s and spending a few months as a medical student in London." (Jewish Press)
  4. The proposal for a new boutique hotel in downtown Dunedin has been approved. The Stirling Hotel will have three floors including 89 hotel and condo units. The building will have 4,800 square feet of retail space along Main Street and Douglas Avenue, a 4,500-square-foot restaurant facing Main Street and the Pinellas Trail, a 4,500-square-foot fitness spa, a large meeting space that can accommodate 264 people, a parking garage, two open courtyard areas off the Pinellas Trail, and a rooftop patio with a pool, sundeck, and patio bar.
