'Bicycle Infraction' Leads to Cocaine Arrest of Dunedin Man

Kevin Mahaffey of Dunedin was charged with possession of crack cocaine.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office stopped 50-year-old Kevin Mahaffey for a "bicycle infraction" just after 9 p.m. on Feb. 25.

According to the arrest affidavit, as the deputy was asking for consent to search Mahaffey, he handed over a white plastic tube, which had .4 grams of cocaine inside. 

Mahaffey, of Roanoke St., was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Three days prior to his cocaine arrest, Mahaffey was arrested by deputies on a DUI charge. 

Deputies said Mahaffey admitted to smoking the cocaine about one hour before being stopped. The affidavit said Mahaffey claimed the cocaine was given to him "by an unknown subject of a debt that was owed to him."
