Here are the top stories in Dunedin today:

  1. Dunedin Parks & Recreation is hosting a free Caregiver Survival Tips seminar on Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. in the Hale Senior Activity Center. The seminar will be presented by Kelly Siegal of Empath Health and cover various tips including how important it is to maintain a sense of humor. Keeping your sense of humor while things quickly change can be key to maintaining a caregiver’s health. Attendees will also learn to navigate community resources, take time for themselves, and to reestablish friendships. No registration is required to attend. (Dunedin Patch)
  2. A singles mixer hosted by Direct from Dunedin is scheduled for Nov. 8 between 6 and 9 p.m. at Blur Nightclub. Tickets are $25 and include two drinks and an array of desserts. Attendees will also have a chance to win one of several prizes, including a 24-hour golf cart rental from Let’s Go Carting and two passes to the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa! All ages are welcome. (Direct from Dunedin)
  3. Pinellas County Schools have responded to threats that were called into a variety of police agencies on Tuesday reporting active shooters at several schools in the county and throughout the state. They posted to their Facebook page saying, "Pinellas County Schools takes ALL threats seriously and our school resource officers, Schools Police Department, and local law enforcement agencies responded to our schools as trained. There were NO signs of a threat at any of our schools. Law enforcement is investigating the source(s) of the calls and those responsible will face criminal charges." If you have a child attending a school in Pinellas County, you will receive a text through the district's automated messaging system in the event of a verified active threat. To sign up for these messages, text Y or YES to 67587. (Pinellas County Schools via Facebook)
