Here are the top 3 stories today in Dunedin:

  1. Pre-sale tickets are now available for the Dunedin Celtic Music Festival scheduled for Nov. 18 in Highlander Park. Hosted by the Dunedin Scottish Arts Foundation, the festival will feature vendors, beer, wine, and live Celtic music. Profits from the event support the Scottish Arts educational and community programs. General admission is $15, or you can upgrade to VIP tickets to get reserved seating, catered food, drinks, and more. (Eventbrite)
  2. Changes to the Pinellas Trail are causing confusion for users. After 30 years of cyclists having the right side of the trail, the county decided to switch it so that everyone would use the trial on the right-hand side and pass on the left. While some hope the change will make the trail safer, as tourists tend to naturally stick to the right, others are confused as only the portion of the trail between Dunedin and St. Pete follows the new rules. The county plans to upgrade the rest of the trail over the next two years. (ABC Action News Tampa Bay)
  3. In celebration of National Mangroves Day, Friends of the Island Parks shared some interesting information on the importance mangroves have on the ecosystem. Their dense roots help bind the soil, while their above-ground roots slow down water flows, encouraging sediment deposits that reduce coastal erosion. "The complex mangrove root systems filter nitrates, phosphates, and other pollutants from the water, improving the water quality flowing from rivers and streams into the estuarine and ocean environment." Learn more about the mangroves at the link! (Friends of the Island Parks)
