Here are the top four stories today in Dunedin:

  1. A specialized charcuterie board company is coming to Dunedin! Founded by local resident Britty Murawinski, The Pop Up Picnic Girl is a catering company that specializes in home charcuterie parties. In September it will be setting up live pop up picnics in local parks or indoor spaces, which will be ticketed events open to the public. It’s also working on opening a brick-and-mortar shop in the new Dunedin Fix food hall that is scheduled to open in the fall on the corner of Broadway and Skinner Boulevard. People will be able to order specialized charcuterie boards from The Pop Up Picnic Girl and other similar vendors. (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
  2. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is investigating a spill of 300 gallons of apple juice that took place on August 1 at the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Dunedin. According to a spokesperson for DEP, the spill may have killed bass, bluegill, and tilapia fish in a retention pond at the 27-acre facility. The agency is analyzing water samples to determine if the juice raised acid levels enough that it would be deadly to wildlife. The apple juice spilled from a ruptured tote bladder while it was being unloaded from a truck and drained into the pond. A large number of fish were later reported dead on August 3. (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
  3. The Dunedin Parks & Recreation Department is hiring recreation leaders for its Before & After School Programs at Dunedin, Garrison-Jones and San Jose Elementary Schools. The position offers a part-time schedule ideal for high school and college students 18 years and older. They're looking for applicants who can assume a leadership role, enjoy working with children, are enthusiastic, and have high energy. Learn more about the position and how to apply at the link. 4. Dunedin Parks & Recreation is offering a "Create & Take" program for kids ages seven to 12 between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the MLK Jr. Recreation Center. The program will encourage your child's inner artist to shine through unique and creative projects for them to take home each week. No artistic experience is needed! Register your child now to participate in any of the following activities: Lava and Painted Rocks on September 13, Frightful Mosaics on October 18, and Festive Fall Pumpkins on November 15.
