  1. Deborah Kynes reflects on her time as a Dunedin Commissioner serving between 1999 and 2009 and then again between 2014 and 2022. "Our history is part of our sense of place," Kynes said. "And I guess if you ask me, what's been your important role, it would be sense of place."Kynes can't seek reelection in November due to term limits, but she plans to continue serving the community in various roles, including serving on the board of Creative Pinellas. (TBN Weekly)
  2. Wu-Tang rapper GZA is coming to Dunedin Brewery on September 21 between 3 and 7 o.m. to play 25 lucky fans in a game of chess. The legendary emcee has been known to enjoy the game and is now traveling around the country battling fans in five-minute rounds of speed chess. The event is free to attend and includes performances by several local rappers afterward! (Creative Loafing Tampa)
  3. Former employees of the Black Pearl recently protested outside of the restaurant over its new method of paying restaurant workers. As mentioned in a previous newsletter, owners of the Black Pearl, Sonder Social Club and the Living Room moved to a commission-based pay system. The new system drops pay to just $1 an hour but gives tipped workers 15% of a mandatory 20% gratuity that’s added to every bill. The remaining 5% goes to bussers, hosts and barbacks, who typically received a percentage of the servers’ tips. While some servers prefer the stability of receiving a guaranteed 15% tip, others aren't happy with the new system. Former employees stood outside the restaurant holding signs that read “$1.00/HR is NOT OK” and “Fair Wage or Better Bottom Line?” (TBN Weekly)
  4. The Dunedin Public Library will host the creators of The Kellogg Mansion – 3D Immersive Experience on September 19 at 6 p.m. In a workshop titled “Lessons in Heritage Preservation: A Look at the Use of Digital Twin and 3D Technologies at the Kellogg Mansion in Dunedin, Florida” you'll hear about its implementation into a virtual reality exhibit. The discussion will be led by Dr. Lori Collins, associate professor in research at USF Libraries and School of Geosciences and co-director of the Center for Digital Heritage and Geospatial Information at USF. No sign-up is required. (Dunedin Gov)
