Here are the top three stories today in Dunedin:
- Four candidates have qualified to run for Dunedin City Commission seats in the November 8 election. Stephanie Joines, a Realtor, is running against Robert Walker, a U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves veteran for the second seat. The current commissioner in that seat, Deborah Kynes, cannot seek re-election due to term limits. Jeff Gow, who is finishing his first term as a city commissioner, is running against Jeff Miller, who owns an insurance agency and a property management company in Dunedin. Read the full article to learn more about the candidates and their priorities. (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
- Dunedin has been nominated Best of the Bay across several categories and needs your vote to win! Only 10 nominees were chosen from each category to move forward to the final round. The city has earned nominations in the following categories: Best City, Best Beach Town, Best Mayor, Best Gallery Show, Best Community Garden, Best Community Center, Best Politician, Best Community Artwork and Best Public Artwork. Be sure to get your vote in before August 31 at 11:59 p.m. (City of Dunedin via Facebook | Best of the Bay Voting)
- The 10th annual Pinellas Trail Challenge is scheduled for September 3 and will help raise money for Dunedin Cares. The race is a point-to-point event that starts in St. Petersburg and finishes at John Chestnut Park in Palm Harbor. The length of the race is measured at 46 miles. The accomplishment is in knowing that you have run a trail that many have run in segments, but few have run from start to finish. Join their Facebook group to receive updates on the event.
