Here are the top 4 stories in Dunedin today:

  1. Get ready for BOO Bingo on Oct. 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the Hale Senior Activity Center! Join Dunedin Parks & Rec for the "spookiest game of bingo Dunedin has ever seen." Enjoy this most frightful occasion with bingo, prizes, and spooky treats. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best Halloween costumes! Register in person or online before Oct. 7. (Dunedin Patch)
  2. Dunedin City Commission candidates addressed key issues at the voter's forum on Sept. 14, offering mixed opinions on the city budget, development issues, and other city topics. Jeff Miller, who is running for Seat 4, said commissioners need to be more careful with government spending, pointing out that projects rarely stay on budget. Robert Walker, who is running for Seat 2, believes there were several budgeting measures city officials could have taken and anticipates having to take a look at how the debt for the new city hall building is structured. Walker's opponent Stephanie Joines and Jeff Gow, who currently holds Seat 4, disagreed that the city is overspending as they expect to see growth in revenue. Check out the article for a full breakdown of the meeting and information on the candidates. (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
  3. With the new Dunedin city hall building nearing completion, city officials are beginning to discuss what will become of the old building. They're currently leaning toward demolishing the building and creating a park. Other options would be too costly as specialists estimate the building needs over $620,000 to replace mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems as well as another $600,000 in renovations, which would cost nearly as much to replace the building entirely. They're trying to come up with a solution that avoids additional costs to the city and doesn't create more parking problems downtown. (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
  4. The City of Dunedin has released an update on the new city hall building. You may have noticed dirt being moved and excavated at the construction site. According to the update, they are preparing for the installation of an underground drainage system. You can read more about the system and how it functions on the city's website. While there have been some delays due to supply chain issues and labor challenges, they still expect the project to be finished this fall. (Dunedin Gov)
