'Dedicated Her Life To Education': Dunedin Teacher Shout-Out

How do you know the teacher?

Joined a drumming class that she teaches at the Hale Senior Center.

What does this person teach?

At 74 years old, Marte has never stopped teaching and taught formally in the school systems for 43 years. Areas of experience and expertise include teaching elementary school and special education, junior high and high school, and also at the college level. Her "specialties" were anthropology and social sciences. She now facilitates and teaches hand drumming at the Hale Senior Center three times per week and at other venues in Pinellas County.

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

Not only has she dedicated most of her life to education and working with children, but when others have retired, Marte is still involved in teaching. She is so very welcoming, calm and relaxed, she truly makes learning fun! She continues to attract new learners and creates such a non-intimidating environment, that many return for more.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

To meet Marte is a genuine pleasure; to sit in on a class is fun, easy and invigorating!
