Here are the top three stories today in Dunedin:
- Few locals know the Dunedin Fine Art Center has been in "Facebook Jail" for a year now with no end in sight. Ken Hannon, the arts center's vice president and COO, chronicled the bizarre situation in a recent press release as a desperate attempt to get in contact with a human being at Facebook. So far, Hannon has only received responses from Facebook's AI system. A photo depicting an art piece of a partially nude woman flagged the DFAC Facebook account for violating Facebook's Community Standards, despite being allowed under Part III. Section 14 of Facebook's published standards, which states they "allow photographs of paintings, sculptures, and other art that depicts nude figures.” Share their story to help them gain access to their Facebook account again! - Did you know that light pollution is a big issue in Pinellas and the Tampa Bay region? It not only wastes energy but also negatively impacts wildlife. Numerous species of plants and animals have evolved to use the moon and celestial lighting to navigate, find food, mate, bloom, and migrate. Artificial lights disrupt these natural cycles and processes. Light pollution and glare from bright, unshielded lights can decrease public safety as well as cause negative human health impacts. Certify your home through the International Dark-Sky Association and learn more on their website. (Facebook | Dark-Sky Association)
- Looking for something special to do with mom this Mother's Day? Pisces Sushi and Let's Paint and Party are collaborating to host a Paint, Wine & Dine event on May 1 between 5:30 and 8:00 PM. Tickets are $45 each and include a happy hour drink, paint materials, and a guided painting session of a hydrangea. The evening will include breaks to give you time to eat, drink, and mingle! Tickets can be purchased online. (Facebook | Tickets)
