Driver Backs Over Publix Shopper In Parking Lot: Pinellas Sheriff
A woman, 83, faces life-threatening injuries after a vehicle backed into her in the parking lot of a Dunedin Publix on Sunday, PCSO said.
DUNEDIN, FL — An 83-year-old woman faces life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle Sunday afternoon in a Publix parking lot in Dunedin, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Mary Canfield, 71, was driving through the grocery store parking lot at 1491 Main Street around 3 p.m. when she backed up to allow another vehicle to leave the lane.
While backing up, she hit Carol Spezzano, who was pushing her shopping cart through the crosswalk, the sheriff’s office said. She was thrown to the ground and hit her head on the pavement.

Spezzano was brought to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Canfield was uninjured in the crash.
Speed and impairment aren’t factors in the incident, investigators said.
