Dunedin Detour Open For Pinellas Trail

The Orange Street/Alternate 19 Pinellas Trail pedestrian bridge is closed pending a construction project to replace it.

DUNEDIN, FL – Pinellas Trail users now have a clearly defined detour around the Orange Street/Alternate 19 pedestrian bridge in Dunedin.

Pinellas County partnered with the Florida Department of Transportation to build a sidewalk connecting, creating a detour at Alternate 19, which connects to the Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail.

The sidewalk allows the following detour:

  • From the north: Trail users can use the new sidewalk connection at Orange Street to connect to the sidewalk along the west side of Alternate 19, then continue south to reconnect to the trail at the Curlew Road intersection.
  • From the south: Trail users can cross Curlew Road, then Alternate 19 and use the sidewalk along the west side of Alternate 19 to reconnect with the trail using the new sidewalk connection at Alternate 19 and Orange Street.

According to Pinellas County, it is evaluating additional traffic control features along with the FDOT for a long-term detour route while the trail overpass is under construction.

The Orange Street/Alternate 19 overpass section of the trail closed in late September to allow for a construction project to replace the pedestrian bridge over Alternate 19 between Tampa and Curlew roads.
