Here are the top 3 stories today in Dunedin:

  1. Justin Robinson has been named Dunedin Fire Rescue Firefighter Of The Year and was recognized for an act of heroism at the City Commission work session on January 18. "On July 25, 2021, Firefighter / Paramedic Justin Robinson and his friend Joe went surfing on Florida's East Coast. During their trip, Justin's friend slammed headfirst into the shallows of the beach with significant force." Robinson's friend was severely injured and could not feel anything from the neck down. He made sure to take the proper precautions while helping his friend to the shore and then voiced his concerns to rescue teams. Robinson insisted they use the correct method and equipment to minimize further injury, which ended up being a C6 fracture. Due to his friend's training and quick thinking, Joe has shown significant improvement including some use of his upper extremities and feeling in his foot. (Press Release Desk)
  2. A suit was filed last Thursday against Manor Care of Dunedin FL, LLC, HCR III Healthcare, LLC, and Promedica Health System, Inc. According to the plaintiff, the defendants are responsible for “tortious acts” committed against his mother. They're being accused of lack of attention and care which resulted in the resident suffering injuries that should have been prevented, including “bodily injury and resulting pain and suffering, disability disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care, and treatment, and aggravation of a previously existing condition.” (Law Street)
  3. Dunedin Parks & Rec is offering a free seminar on wills, trusts and estate planning. The seminar will be held by Attorney Renee Decker and will teach attendees how to create a will, trust, guardianship, and how to make their wishes known concerning health care decisions. Additionally, the seminar will review the roles of the individuals named in estate planning documents and what to keep in mind when selecting these people. (Press Release Desk)
