Here are the top five stories in Dunedin today:

  1. A Float-In Movie showing of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" at Highlander Pool is scheduled for September 16 at 6 p.m. Bring the family and enjoy games, trivia and concessions. Single-person pool floats are allowed. (Dunedin Gov)
  2. A local drone pilot recently filmed a video of a shark swimming off the Dunedin Causeway.
John Yanchoris, who uploaded the clip to his YouTube channel 2nd Eye In The Sky Drones, shot the video at sunrise on Wednesday morning. You can also spot a stingray in the video. Definitely check it out! (WFLA)
  3. Dunedin Parks & Recreation and the YMCA have partnered up to offer a new Diabetes Prevention Program starting on September 14 at noon in the Hale Senior Activity Center. This lifestyle improvement program is for adults with prediabetes and will empower participants with lasting lifestyle changes. The goal of the program is to improve overall health and reduce your chance of developing type-2 diabetes. Begin with weekly one-hour classroom sessions with a trained lifestyle coach to learn about healthy eating, physical activity and lifestyle changes. Following these sessions, participants will meet monthly for added support in reaching their ultimate goals of reducing body weight by 5-7% and participating in 150 minutes of physical activity per week. Call (727) 379-2473 to register. (Dunedin Gov)
  4. Movies in the Park are back in Pioneer Park every Friday in October! Grab your blanket or chairs and enjoy an evening with your friends and family. Movies begin at dark and are shown on a large, outdoor movie screen with large speakers. Showings include "Lightyear" (2022) on October 7, "Jumanji The Next Level" on October 14, "The Bad Guys" on October 21 and "Harry & The Hendersons" (1987) on October 28. All movies are free to attend. Concessions will be available. (Dunedin Gov)
  5. September 21 is International Day of Peace! In the spirit of this year’s theme, “End Racism. Build Peace,” there will be speakers from different faith communities, musical performances, a demonstration performed by the Taoist Tai Chi community and a candlelight vigil. The program begins at 6 p.m. at the Peace Pole in Weaver Park. There will be some chairs provided, but all are encouraged to bring chairs and a cheerful heart as we gather and join in with other United Nations countries who will also be gathering at Peace Poles located around the world on this same day.
