Here are the top three stories in Dunedin today:
- Dunedin Parks & Recreation is hosting"Hippie Bingo" on August 8 between 12:30 and 2 p.m. at the Hale Senior Activity Center. The city invites you to get your groove on by wearing all of your flower power or tie-dye apparel. The event will include "shagadelic treats" and "peace and love" bingo games with friends. Those interested must pre-register by Friday, August 5. (Dunedin Patch)
- A new partnership with the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority and Pinellas County Schools is helping students and teachers at Dunedin, Largo and Gibbs high schools get to school. All students and teachers can ride the bus or trolley for free by showing their school ID. PSTA CEO Brad Miller explained the pilot program by saying, "Of the 18 high schools in Pinellas County, 11 of them have direct bus service, there's already a bus stop right in front of them. ... This is commonplace where students are taking public transit buses to and from school rather than yellow school buses. So we worked out an arrangement and now yeah, just showing your ID, you can hop on any bus and get to where you need to go." In addition to traveling to and from school, students and teachers can get a free ride to afterschool jobs, activities, or even the beach. (ABC Action News)
- Erosion along the Elfers Spur Trail Extension of the Pinellas Trail has caused officials to close it indefinitely due to safety concerns. The extension runs between the Fred Marquis Trail, near Rivo Place and connects to the city of Tarpon Springs' North Anclote River Nature Park. The county will be discussing the situation to determine how to proceed with repairs. In the meantime, barricades are up to alert trail users of the closure. (Dunedin Patch)
