Here are the top stories today in Dunedin:
- The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be available throughout Pinellas County for kids ages 5-11 starting Friday. You can schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine at Dunedin pharmacies including Walgreens, CVS, Publix, and Shields Pharmacy on Main Street. (ABC Action News)
- The Dunedin Public Library is now offering a free Career Online High School Program. Those who complete the program will earn a private, accredited high school diploma and a career certificate. The classes can be taken on your own time and will give you the tools needed to advance your career. (Press Release Desk)
- Eleven nonprofits in Pinellas County received a cut of $1.88 million in grants from Florida Humanities as part of the American Rescue Plan Covid relief package. Each nonprofit received 10% of its pre-COVID budget. The Dunedin Historical Museum was granted $25,000, which can be spent on general operating costs. This grant is the largest Florida Humanities has ever managed or distributed at one time. (St Pete Catalyst)
- In honor of Veteran's Day, The City of Dunedin summarizes how it's shown support for veterans over the years. Our most recognizable tribute is the "Defending Freedom" arch designed by architect Jeff Smith displayed over the entrance of Broadway Avenue. Dunedin also joined The Hidden Heroes Cities and Counties program in February to help bring awareness to the issues military caregivers face. In 2006, Dunedin was designated Florida's first Purple Heart City by the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Purple Heart Park is located downtown off Main Street and is home to several tributes to veterans. (Dunedin Patch)
