Improvements Underway At Honeymoon Island Entrance
Drivers should expect traffic delays on the causeway.

DUNEDIN, FL — The Florida Department of Environmental Protection Division of Recreation and Parks is undertaking a construction project to alleviate traffic concerns at the entrance of Honeymoon Island State Park.
Currently, the park entrance features two toll booths. The improvement project will add two traffic lanes and one toll booth at the entrance of the park, allowing vehicles to enter the park quicker. This will alleviate traffic congestion on the causeway. Wider lanes will also allow better access for emergency vehicles.
The contractor recently removed the existing third lane in preparation for the new tollbooth and lanes, resulting in only two inbound lanes for a few months. Visitors to the Honeymoon Island should expect additional traffic back-ups during this time.

Construction began in mid-January and should take about 150 days, with completion tentatively scheduled for mid-June.
Care will be taken to reduce the impacts to the natural vegetation around the area to protect the marine resources adjacent to the entrance to the park.
