Here are the top three stories in Dunedin today:

  1. The final Piper on the Pier performance and Grand Finale of the season will be held on the evening of April 30 at the downtown marina. This special event will include a larger number of bagpipers who will march down the pier. A bagpiper will kick off the event by performing "Amazing Grace" on a nearby boat at sunset. (Dunedin Gov)
  2. The WK Preservation Group is planning a fundraiser to help save the vanishing wilderness in Pinellas County. The Jimmy Buffett-themed benefit is scheduled for May 19 between 6:30 and 9:30 PM at Sea Sea Riders. Enjoy music by Jimmy Buffett’s original guitarist Roger Bartlett, food by Sea Sea Riders, a silent auction, and an exciting announcement. Tickets are $50 per person and include music, food, and a drink ticket. A sponsor level ticket is also available and includes music, food, and drink tickets for 4 plus a reserved table. Attire is Florida festive cocktail! (ABC Action News | WK Preservation Group)
  3. This week marks the 85th anniversary of Mease Dunedin Hospital. The hospital opened its doors on April 18, 1937 with 19 beds and a staff of three physicians and two nurses. As the story goes, Dr. Jack Mease moved to Dunedin with his wife, Gladys, and young family in 1926 because he heard the town had “the best drinking water in Florida.’’ With only one other doctor in town, he enjoyed a thriving practice in the beginning. During the Depression, however, many patients could not afford gas to drive to the hospital in Clearwater, so a group of concerned citizens asked Mease to build a hospital nearby. He raised the capital and paid residents in need of work to build it. The rest is history! You can see photos of the hospital when it first opened on its Facebook page. (Facebook)
