Here are the top 3 stories in Dunedin today:

  1. If your child between 8 and 11 loves the outdoors, consider signing them up for the City of Dunedin's Nature Club. The club will meet on Thursdays between 5 and 6 p.m. at MLK Jr. Recreation Center. Led by local educator Lynette Wehner, kids will explore the outdoor area around the Nature Center, perform experiments, and participate in discussions about how to help the earth. Register now for $60 per month online here or in person at the rec center. (City of Dunedin via Facebook)
  2. Deed fraud is on the rise, as one Dunedin man is now aware of. John Whitt Jenkins lost his home after someone forged and filed public documents claiming they purchased his home. Jenkins told WLFA, “They forged my signature, and they had to fake witnesses on there, and a fictitious notary on there saying I sold my house for $160,000, and that was it, and the county went with it." It took him four months to get his home back! Jenkins isn't the only victim, however. Local police reported that the same man who stole Jenkins' home stole five others. (WFLA)
  3. Save the date! The City of Dunedin is hosting a Drive-In Movie Night featuring "Encanto" on March 17 at 6 p.m. in Highlander Park. Get your tickets now at the Dunedin Community Center for just $12 per car. Guests will enjoy music, raffles, and a Disney favorite at dark. Those who attend are welcome to bring their own food and snacks. (City of Dunedin via Facebook)

From my notebook:

  • Residents should expect road closures and delays downtown this weekend for the Arts & Craft Festival on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Main Street will be closed between Broadway and Grant Street. Virginia Street will be closed between Highland Avenue and Douglas Avenue. Parts of Douglas Avenue will also be closed between Grant Street and Wood Street. You can find a map of road closures and detours at the link. (Dunedin Gov)
  • Join Farmer Minor & Daisy the Pig at the Dunedin Public Library on Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. for story time! Daisy the Pig will be on sight, and some lucky kids may even get to give her a kiss. (Dunedin Gov)
  • The HOB Give Back volunteers to help spread the word about what they do at The HOB Craft Beer Festival on March 3 between 4 and 10 p.m. and March 4 between 6 and 10 p.m. Volunteers will help by working their booth for several hours on either or both days. Those interested can call or text 727-418-6767 for more information. (The HOB Give Back via Facebook)
  • Congratulations to The Honu on its 7-year anniversary! They shared a beautiful post on Facebook honoring their journey and included some incredible before and after photos. "We started with four tables out front and now have 150 seats, full liquor, and totally transformed space inside, including private rum bar Ka Pakele, and a Polynesian paradise we call our Tiki Bar out back... We are very grateful for all that have helped us get to where we are today, and if you know us, we are not done yet! More great things to come to Honu this year!" (The Honu via Facebook)
