Knot On Main Street to Reopen Today

Renovations on one half of the fire-ravaged antique mall are complete, allowing vendors to move in.

, the popular antique mall that was severely damaged by a fire in June, will partially reopen Tuesday.

The fire, which was  and caused $150,000 in structural damage, displaced at least 60 tenants and caused plenty of headaches for property owners Bob and Barbara O'Connell.

"It's been extremely difficult, dealing with all the repairs and all the red tape that goes with rebuilding," Barbara O'Connell said. "But everybody has been very supportive, working together to help us get this back up and running."

The south half of the structure, which received mostly smoke and water damage, has been renovated and features new impact-resistant storm windows and doors, thicker insulation and a new drop ceiling.

According to the O'Connells, that section is already filled to three-quarters of its capacity with a mix of new and previous vendors.

The north side, or phase two as Barbara O'Connell refers to it, was heavily damaged by flames and had to be rebuilt nearly from scratch.

Repairs on that section include a new roof, reinforced support beams and a new floor. Bob O'Connell expects that side to reopen next month.

After the roof is complete, "then it's a matter of putting the beams up, putting the floor down and getting the drywall up," said O'Connell, who also owns next door.

"Hopefully we'll have it open in time for the holidays," he said. "I know everyone is anxious for it to be finished. It's already been five months, so I guess we can wait a little longer."
