Here are the top three stories today in Dunedin:
- Dunedin Public Library will receive an AARP Grant along with 10 other organizations throughout the state. The library will receive $6,200 which will be used for picnic tables at the playground, and a “story walk” with signage explaining the city’s history and other distinctions. Florida State Director Jeff Johnson said, “AARP Florida is committed to working with communities to improve residents’ quality of life through tangible changes. We are proud to collaborate with this year’s grantees as they make immediate improvements in their communities to jumpstart long-term change in the Sunshine State, especially for Floridians 50+.” (Dunedin Patch)
- Artist Tom Stovall, who is working on the Curlew Water Tower mural, was featured in a recent Dunedin Spotlight episode where he described his inspiration for his design. "Elizabeth Brinklow called me one day," Stovall explained, "and said 'Tom, how come you haven't submitted a design for the tower?' So, I promptly drove up and took a look at the Curlew Road Water Tower and I said, 'Elizabeth, this is an egg.' I don't want birds breaking out of it. Maybe turtles. And the theme really is the birth of something that is really meant to conquer survival. It is a theme for the times." Watch the full video to hear more about Stovall's process. - Five Florida tax holidays start July 1, allowing residents to save on home improvement items, children’s clothes and diapers and energy-efficient appliances. While some items will receive a tax break over the next year or two, others will only be discounted for a week. Between July 1 and July 7 you can purchase various outdoor supplies at a reduced price. Additionally, tickets to concerts, movies, sporting events, fairs, state parks and more will be tax-free! (WFLA)
