Here are the top 3 stories in Dunedin today:

  1. Joshua Tannen, a 34-year-old Dunedin resident, has been invited to speak to Tampa City Council after advocating for himself and his need for a living kidney donor on social media. His mother donated one of her kidneys to him in 2002, but the transplant failed in 2011 leaving him without one for more than a decade now. To get by, Tannen is on dialysis every night for ten hours. As a Pinellas County resident since 2018, Tannen volunteers several days a week at Mease Dunedin Hospital, where he helps answer general questions for the public and works in the lab getting people checked in for their bloodwork. He encourages everyone to learn more about Tampa General Hospital's living donor program, where he is currently on a waitlist. (Bay News 9 |TGH Living Donor Program)
  2. Post-pandemic lawyers are opting to work from home unless they can bring their dogs into the office with them, a growing trend has made its way to Dunedin. This comes as no surprise though, as Dunedin is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the country. Kris Parker, a co-founding attorney, and partner at Hendry & Parker in Dunedin has a 12-year-old Boston terrier named Dunkin whom he brings to the law office daily. “Law offices and legal matters can be intimidating, and Dunkin takes some of that edge off for most of our clients,” Parker says. “If he were not permitted in our office, I would probably look into working somewhere he is welcome.” Dog lovers are hoping this trend seeps into other industries as well! 3. The city of Dunedin and Blue-Green Connections are celebrating ocean conservation, wildlife, environmental education, and the protection of natural resources with an eco-friendly event on February 12. The event will kick off with a 9:00 AM beach clean-up followed by a festival at Edgewater Park. Attendees can expect a ton of interactive and educational activities including live animals, a mermaid pod, a tie-dye station, and the chance to test drive a Tesla. The event will also include local eco-friendly vendors, food, live music, and contests. It's free to attend, but $25 tickets for access to The Eat & Drink Local section which includes a full meal, dessert, and five drink samples. (Blue-Green Conn)
