Here are the top stories today in Dunedin:
- The Junior League of Clearwater-Dunedin has partnered up with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for a truly incredible and charitable event. On Oct. 22 they will be working with volunteers to build beds for children in Pinellas County who do not have their own beds to sleep in. They're looking for plenty of volunteers, so if you're looking to give back, be sure to learn more about this event. You can sign up by emailing CommunityImpact@jlcd.org. Volunteers under 18 must have a legal guardian present at this event, which will be held between 7 a.m. and noon at the Boys & Girls Club Tarpon Springs location. - The 44th Honor Flight took off from St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport on Tuesday morning with 70 veterans onboard. As a thank you for their service, the veterans are being flown to Washington D.C. This year is special for our small town as several Dunedin residents participated, including veterans Dave Dexter of VFW Post 2550 in Dunedin, John Dingman of the Dunedin American Legion Post 275, and Gary Carlisle of the Dunedin American Legion Post 275. Veterans spent the day in the capital visiting various memorials before they flew home that same night. They were welcomed home by a crowd of family, friends, and locals. - The Dunedin History Museum is giving away a pair of tickets to its big anniversary event coming up! Rules on how to enter are on their Facebook page. You must have a Facebook account and be 18 years or older to participate. The giveaway ends on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be notified in a direct message on Oct. 21. This '70s-themed bash is scheduled for Nov. 6 between 5 and 8 p.m. at Blur Nightclub! If you don't win, tickets are available online. (Dunedin History Museum via Facebook | Dunedin History Museum)
