Here are the top 3 stories today in Dunedin:

  1. The City of Dunedin approved a 10 percent rate increase for marina slips at the downtown marina, effective April 1. Officials held off on raising prices during COVID as they didn't want to burden slip renters further. "If we put that off again, then we are looking at a much larger increase," said City Manager Jennifer Bramley. "So we want to start generating that revenue, keep the reserve as whole as we can moving forward with the capital projects." Marina rates have remained the same since 2015. Officials have a meeting scheduled in May to discuss how the increased revenue will be used to improve the marina. (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
  2. See magician Jim Munroe in a family-friendly performance on April 8 at Coastal Christian Church. He will perform in two free shows, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. "Jim uses his gifts of sleight of hand and performance to wow his audiences as he shares his cancer victory and skeptic-to-faith story in a unique way." Seating is offered on a first-come basis, but anyone interested can reserve free tickets here. (Dunedin Patch)
  3. Dunedin Brewery's Spring Beer Jam music festival is scheduled between March 23 and March 26. This free four-day event is a can't-miss music event featuring artists across various genres, including hip-hop, jazz, punk, and jam. Some artists who will take one of the two stages include Punkadelick, Joe Marcinek's Bday Jam, Steve Molitz's Launchpad, and Jon Ditty's Mental Breakdown. Times for the event vary each day. • Friends of the Island Parks shared an incredible photo of a Piping Plover seen on the north tip of Honeymoon Island. "She was banded as an adult in June 2017 on a alkali lake near Westby, Montana! She has wintered on the Gulf Islands near us since 2017. She is waiting for the strong South winds to pick up this afternoon to carry her back north to her breeding grounds in North Dakota!!" It's amazing how far these little birds travel!
