More Charges for Suspect in Library Toilet Part Thefts

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is throwing more charges onto a growing pile for a man suspected of taking toilet parts from public restrooms in Dunedin, Clearwater and Largo.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is throwing more charges onto a growing pile for a man suspected of taking toilet parts from public restrooms in Dunedin, Clearwater and Largo.

Herman Luis Acosta, 43, of Clearwater was arrested Wednesday and charged with stealing toilet parts from the Clearwater Main Library on Oct. 11, according to police. 

After media inquiry, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that it would refer petty theft charges on Acosta to the State Attorney's Office for parts stolen from the men's restroom at Dunedin Public Library on Oct. 10.

Acosta had been arrested on similiar charges in Largo on Oct. 12 for removing chrome-plated brass plumbing fixtures at several fast food restaurants, Largo authorities report. 

Acosta allegedly sold the parts for scrap metal, Clearwater Police said.

The cost to replace the pipes is approximately $1,500, police report.

Similar crimes were also reported at the the Checkers on Gulf to Bay Boulevard and McDonald's, at 539 S. Missouri Ave., according to Clearwater Police.
