Here are the top five stories in Dunedin today:
- The City of Dunedin will host a Juneteenth Celebration on June 18 in Pioneer Park between 5 and 8 p.m. Attendees will enjoy live music, dance performances, craft and food vendors, poetry and more! Traditionally, Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans and celebrates the African-American culture. (Dunedin Gov)

- The City of Dunedin has released the results of the 2022 Citizen Survey which ran from February to March and garnered 1,715 responses. Residents were asked to indicate their satisfaction levels with all types of services, events, facilities and departments. The city received an overall satisfaction of 93.6% for all city services! Satisfaction was top-rated amongst fire services (99.4%), the library (98.7%), parks and recreation (96.2%), and solid waste and recycling (96%). Three areas stood out in the survey: planning for the future, traffic, and affordable housing. These were rated the lowest and many residents indicated they would support allocating funds to improving these areas. View the full report on the survey results on the city's website. (Dunedin Gov)
- Dunedin Fire Rescue has unveiled its new logos honoring the three different fire stations in Dunedin. While the logo for Dunedin Fire Rescue will still remain, traditionally, fire stations have a unique logo representative of their unit. The new logos honor Station 60 nicknamed the alligator as it serves both land and sea, Station 61 which serves Hog Island, and Station 62 which serves the "Orange Belt" which is a reference to the former Orange Belt Railway where the Pinellas Trail exists today. Watch the full video to learn more about what inspired the new logos and get a peek at the designs! (Fox13)
- Patricia Snair, the daughter of one of the representatives of the estate of late philanthropist Louis A. Vanech, claims the city of Dunedin hasn't fulfilled its part of a deal made in 1989. The Vanech estate made a $500,000 donation for the development of a 44-acre park to be designated the Louis A. Vanech Recreational Complex. According to the 1989 recreational development agreement between the city and the Louis Vanech estate, "it was clearly stated in the document that the property so improved should be identified as the Louis A. Vanech recreation complex and that no other name or designation should [be] placed on such property," Snair said. The property in question is currently used as the Player Development Complex for the Toronto Blue Jays. Snair asked for the city to return the money to the estate in 2019 and has recently asked that the donation be put towards the Scottish arts. "To all of our knowledge, everything was done according to all the agreements," Mayor Julie Ward Bujalski said, however, a new sign for Stirling Park has been designed to rename it in honor of Vanech. Are you a Dunedin resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
