Here are the top 3 stories in Dunedin today:

  1. Locals are thrilled the intersection where the Pinellas trail meets Skinner Boulevard is receiving safety upgrades. Eric Davis who works at Eli’s Barbeque near the intersection would have to offer his assistance to bikers and pedestrians on a weekly basis after being struck by a car. The midblock pedestrian signal currently uses sensors that blink yellow as soon as a walker or biker approaches the intersection. Soon, it will require cyclists to stop and activate the traffic signal. Meanwhile, a plan for a long-term solution is underway with construction estimated to begin in 2024. (ABC Action News)
  2. The Rotary Club of Dunedin is working with the City of Dunedin on a ceremony dedicated to world peace in February. The ceremony is inspired by the Peace Pole Project, a global initiative started by Masahisa Goi in 1955 after World War II. After Goi experienced the dropping of atomic bombs in Japan, he dedicated himself to promoting peace and harmony on Earth by spreading the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” Peace Poles inscribed with this message began to appear across Japan, and made their way to the U.S. in 1986. There are currently over 200,000 Peace Poles around the world. (Facebook)
