Here are the top three stories today in Dunedin:
- Both Dunedin Elementary School and Dunedin Highland Middle School are welcoming new principals this school year. Tina Murphy, who served as the school's assistant principal since 2014, is the new principal at Dunedin Elementary School. Her goal is to make sure every student is making progress throughout the school year. The new principal of Dunedin Highland Middle School, Brandon Glenn, previously served as a principal in Hillsborough County. His goals are to "build a collaborative culture for all students and community stakeholders, to build and sustain long-lasting positive relationships, and to raise student achievement across campus." (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
- Dunedin city officials want to create a long-term strategic plan to help them be proactive in laying the foundation of their government services. They are considering hiring a consulting firm to help develop the plan, which will take the recent citizen survey, citizen feedback, and other documents into consideration. According to Mayor Julie Ward Bujalski, the city's goals are to create "vibrant, cultural experiences that touch the lives of our community and visitors." Additional goals include fostering a diverse highly engaged workforce, creating a visual sense of place throughout the city, and promoting Dunedin as a premier coastal community. (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
- Mangos & Marley Cafe is hosting a special Watercolor Citrus Paint Night event on September 6 between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. The event is hosted by local artist Essie Bergen who you may remember has a new Dunedin-themed coloring book that was mentioned in a recent newsletter. Tickets are $75 per person and include a meal and all the necessary painting supplies. Contact Bergen on Facebook to learn how to get your tickets! (Essie Bergen Artwork via Facebook)
