Here are the top 3 stories in Dunedin today:
- With inclement weather expected to hit the area this weekend, cold night shelters in Pinellas County will be open on Saturday night. All sites provide a warm and safe place to sleep, and many sites also serve a meal. Shelters are activated when the National Weather Service expects the “feels like” temperature to hit 40 degrees or below across the county between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM. Shelter guests are accepted until the shelter is full. Read the full article to find a shelter location near you. (Facebook | Pinellas County News)
- In honor of International Bagpipe Day on Thursday, The City of Dunedin shared a bit of related news on its social media pages. As most of us know, Dunedin was originally settled by Scottish families. The city embraces its heritage and community, by supporting organizations like the City of Dunedin Pipe Band, Dunedin Scottish Arts Foundation, Dunedin High School Scottish Highlander Band, and the New World Celts — Dunedin Chapter. The city also offers adult bagpipe classes at the Dunedin Community Center and a Bagpipe Summer Camp in July for kids ages 11-17. Contact the community center to learn more. (Facebook | Dunedin Gov)
- A new traffic signal is currently being constructed at the intersection of Skinner Boulevard and the Pinellas Trail. The signal will work in coordination with the light at Broadway, the intersection west of the Pinellas Trail. Vehicles and trail users may only enter the intersection with the appropriate indication. The trail user will need to stop and press the pedestrian button to allow the signal to change. The signal will be operational before the end of March, and the Sheriff’s Office will be monitoring to ensure compliance. This signal is only temporary until the completion of the Complete Streets project, where Skinner Boulevard will be redesigned with roundabouts and one travel lane in each direction. (Dunedin Gov)
