Here are the top three stories in Dunedin today:
- After almost a dozen owls died around Tampa Bay from rat poison, including four nesting owls in Hammock Park, the county investigated the issue. The owls accidentally ingested a toxic dose by eating poisoned rats, raising serious concerns about rodenticides in state parks and other public areas. Anticoagulant rodenticides or ARs work by slowing down rats as they bleed out, creating slow-moving prey for unsuspecting predators like owls, hawks, cats, coyotes, and other small animals. Pinellas County has since banned the use of rodenticides in all parks, and local governments in Safety Harbor and Dunedin have replaced rodenticide bait with snap traps that kill rats immediately. - The Dunedin Public Library provides full access to the entire Mometrix eLibrary database which offers digital access to study materials for over 1,500 standardized exams. The study materials include comprehensive study guides, interactive flashcards, and practice tests. These resources are all free with your library card. Head to the city's website to learn about the Mometrix eLibrary database and other free library resources. (Dunedin Gov)
- Dunedin High School is hosting its Homecoming Parade today at 3:30 p.m. Come out to cheer and show your Falcon Spirit! The parade will last approximately 30-40 minutes. It will head east on Michigan Boulevard, south on Pinehurst Road, and finish up at the high school. The Dunedin Community Center, Highlander Park and the side of Pinehurst Road are all great places to watch the parade. (Dunedin Gov)
