Here are the top 3 stories in Dunedin today:

  1. City commissioners discussed building a parking garage downtown in a Feb. 21 meeting. They explored building a three or four-story garage on the lot purchased by the city on Scotland Street. The prime location is near Main Street and the Pinellas Trail, making it ideal for additional parking spots. Mayor Julie Ward Bujalski commented on the issue, saying, “I don’t think we have a choice, and I think we would be very shortsighted if we don’t move forward.” A three-story structure would add 174 parking spaces for $7 million, while a four-story building would add 256 spaces for $10 million. Commissioners will address the project again on April 4. (The Business Journals)
  2. Starting this weekend, the Jolley Trolley will offer a hop-on, hop-off brew crawl with 20 destinations in Pinellas County. Step aboard the 38-foot pirate-themed trolley Friday through Sunday at any of the participating bars and breweries. One ticket gets you rides all weekend and includes drink specials at participating locations. The trolley travels from Clearwater Beach to Tarpon Springs with stops at the Fenway Hotel, Stirling Wine, Caledonia Brewing, Soggy Bottom Brewing, The Honu, HOB, and many more! Tickets can be purchased online. (Newsbreak)
  3. Do you know the history of the original red bricks that lined the roads in Dunedin? According to Tampa Bay Newspapers, Dunedin's limited roads were made of dirt and mud until the 1870s. It was around then that they had bricks shipped in from the Atlanta Brick Co. to improve the roads. Over the following decades, brick companies in Tampa popped up and began to supply Dunedin with bricks to build and maintain the roads. Ultimately, the bricks required too much maintenance, and the city began to pave the roads instead. Read more about the history of brick roads in Dunedin at the link. (Tampa Bay Newspapers)
