DUNEDIN, FL — An 83-year-old woman died Wednesday, days after being hit by a vehicle in a Publix parking lot in Dunedin, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Carol Spezzano was hit by the vehicle in the grocery store parking lot at 1491 Main Street on Sunday around 3 p.m. She was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after the crash.

Mary Canfield, 71, was driving through the parking lot when she backed up to allow another vehicle to leave the lane and hit Spezzano, who was pushing her shopping cart through the crosswalk, the sheriff’s office said.

She was thrown to the ground and hit her head on the pavement.

Canfield was uninjured in the crash.

Speed and impairment aren’t factors in the incident, investigators said.
