  1. Purple Heart recipient and retired U.S. Army infantry staff sergeant Robert Groover, gave the keynote speech at the Purple Heart Recognition Day Ceremony on Sunday at the Purple Heart Park in Dunedin. During his speech, he spoke of sacrifice, his time at war, his transition into civilian life, and issues within the veteran community. The event also included an honor guard rifle salute, the presentation of colors by a Dunedin High School ROTC unit, prayers, a helicopter flyover provided by the sheriff's office, songs and prayers. Read the article for more information on the event. (TBN Weekly)
  2. The Salty Soul Foundation is hosting a beach cleanup event along the Dunedin Causeway on August 13 at 8 a.m. It has collected over 21,000 pounds of trash since 2017 from local beaches and waterways. Since then it has partnered with Keep Pinellas Beautiful to adopt a one-mile stretch of the causeway and could use your help to continue the mission. Register online if you plan to attend. (Dunedin Patch | Eventbrite)
  3. With several fires starting in Dunedin garbage trucks lately, the city wants to remind the community how to safely discard hazardous items. Never throw out hazardous or flammable waste in your roll-carts. Pinellas County has free monthly drop-offs for TVs, cell phones, computers, household cleaners, fuel, paint and other hazardous materials. A drop-off schedule can be found on the county's website. Keep in mind, if you live in an HOA, townhome, condo, or apartment, these services may be offered there as well. For more information, check the county website or call 727-464-7500.
