Update: Air Unit Catches Fire at Cafe Alfresco

"Smoke was in the air," a nearby merchant reports.

A rooftop air-conditioning unit is the source of an early morning fire at a popular downtown restaurant Friday morning, fire officials report.

"Smoke was in the air," Candace Spathelf, a downtown merchant, wrote to Patch.

Dunedin firefighters received a call at 10:36 a.m. about a possible fire at . Three engines, including a ladder truck, arrived in front of the Main Street eatery shortly thereafter. The blaze was confined to the air-conditioning unit.

Firefighters spent about 30 minutes at the scene.

No injuries were reported. No other damages were reported.

"Luckily it was only the air handler and some wiring issues," Spathelf said in the email. 

The air conditioning unit must be replaced, fire officials said.
