Key West book by local author recognized by the Florida Authors and Publishers Association

The Secret Society of Cats & Chickens, by Margaret Meps Schulte, has been awarded a bronze medal in the Florida Authors and Publishers Association President's Book Awards.
The annual contest recognizes book publishing excellence and creativity in design, content, and production and is judged by publishers, librarians, educators, and other industry professionals from Florida and beyond.
The Secret Society of Cats & Chickens draws on Schulte's Key West "Conch" roots and introduces a lively set of characters. Readers are invited into a mysterious island society, where cats and chickens work together to keep the animal citizens of Key West safe and informed.

The story follows a real sailor cat, aptly named "Kitty," whose curiosity gets her into an unexpected situation. Using her unique feline knowledge of boats, she rescues a new friend and earns the respect of the six-toed cats on the island.
The book is illustrated with Schulte's pen-and-ink drawings and is intended for both children and whimsical adults.
