Here are the top 3 stories today in Dunedin:

  1. Sim Center is holding its grand re-opening in Dunedin in June, offering various virtual reality experiences, including racing a Formula One car, flying an F-16 fighter jet, and surviving a zombie apocalypse. The owner, Peter Repak, originally opened the 4,000-square-foot space in Clearwater a few years ago, but the pandemic forced him to downsize. Sim Center is now located on Bayshore Boulevard in Downtown Dunedin. You can learn more about what they offer at the Sim Center here. (ABC Action News Tampa Bay)
  2. The Dunedin Blue Jays are holding a Pride Golf Cart Parade, and the game is on June 23 at 4 p.m. In addition to some Pride swag, they will also be raffling off free golf cart rentals. Each golf cart that participates in the parade will receive two tickets to the baseball game courtesy of TD Bank. Fireworks will begin at the end of the game! (All Events)
  3. The City of Dunedin is hosting a Juneteenth Celebration on June 16 between 6 and 9 p.m. in Pioneer Park. This free event honors the oldest known national holiday and will include live music and performances, craft vendors, food vendors, and much more. Bring the family down for an evening of fun and education! (City of Dunedin via Facebook)

Today in Dunedin:

  • Pride Flag Raising at Dunedin City Hall (10:30 a.m.)
  • Introductory Taoist Tai Chi Movements at the Taoist Tai Chi Society (6:30 p.m.)
  • Snell's Square Dancing at the Hale Senior Activity Center (6:30 p.m.)
  • Music Trivia at Caledonia Brewing (7:30 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • The next session for swimming lessons at the Highlander Pool in Dunedin begins June 5. Sessions are available for infants and children and run for two weeks. Each session includes six classes between Mondays and Wednesdays at various times depending on age and swim level. Those interested can register online here or in person at Highlander Pool or the Dunedin Community Center. (City of Dunedin via Facebook)
  • The City of Dunedin reminds residents not to pour fats, oils, or grease down the drain or garbage disposal. It sticks to pipes and leads to sewer backups, resulting in costly repairs for homeowners. (City of Dunedin via Facebook)
  • Pisces Sushi is helping to spread awareness and raise funds for Alzheimer’s disease by participating in Paint Dunedin Purple. To show their support, they will be selling purple Muraski Coolers between June 2 and June 4 and donating 100 percent of the proceeds to the Alzheimer's Association. (Pisces Sushi via Facebook)
